With the 1.3 FW update, VB1 users can now install and manage certificates on the Videobar using Bose Work Configuration (BWC) and Bose Work Management (BWM). A device certificate is an electronic document that provides proof of the device identity, which is embedded into the device hardware. Historically, access to A/V devices has been password protected. With the increased occurrence and visibility of cyber-attacks, however, IT departments are placing a higher priority on certificate-based authentication schemes. Certificates can be used to authenticate the Bose VB1’s internal webserver and to authenticate both the device and remote server within the customer's secure network.

With industry standard certificate management functionality, a Videobar device can leverage best practices to participate in customer security processes. Many customers require this level of security for devices on networks, and with this added functionality, VB1 is now an optimal solution.

BWC and BWM users can use the app to perform the following while managing certificates with a VB1:

  • Create a certificate signing request (CSR)
  • Transfer a CSR to a host for certificate authority (CA) generation
  • Deploy or install a CA certificate
  • View, activate, or delete a certificate

In Bose Work Configuration, users can access the Certificate Management feature via the Security - Certificates tab:

In Bose Work Management, users can also access the Certificate Management feature via the Security – Certificates tab:

For step-by-step instructions on how to utilize Certificate Management features in BWC and BWM, see the  Bose Work Configuration and  Bose Work Management User Guides, available for viewing and download on the VB1 product page.

Note that Certificate Management is a planned VB-S feature update for 2023.
